The DAR Patriot Record for John Farr of Warren County, Georgia
One source of interest for any genealogist is the Patriot Records of the Daughters of the Amercian Revolution, or DAR. In my research, I located a DAR Patriot Record for John Farr of Warren and Newton Counties, Georgia. So I requested copies of this record application for my research. Clara McClendon Hagan was the applicant who filed for membership in the DAR citing John Farr as her Patriot ancestor. In her application, she seems to reference the traditions of Sarah Huff, and these traditions were accepted by the DAR into the Patriot Record. For many years, the Patriot Record for John Farr has been cited by numerous researchers, including Lucian Lamar Knight who authored and compiled Georgia’s Roster of the Revolution. Comparing the DAR Patriot Record to other known documents, it is obvious that the DAR record is not reliable for John Farr who could not have been a Revolutionary War Soldier. It is apparent that the Huff Traditions concerning John Farr are inaccurate, although the inaccuracies appear to be quite innocent. Documents discovered since Sarah Huff wrote her family traditions support the argument that Jacob Farr, (who was most likely the father of John Farr) was the American Revolutionary War Soldier, and the family traditions likely blurred and merged these two individuals into one story.
