Death of Sally Farr in 1832
Some of the best resources I have in my library are those published by Daniel M. Crumpton of Warren County, Georgia. Any serious genealogist with ties to Warren County should own these books or have access to them through libraries. I searched in these books for information on my wife’s family and stumbled across information on my own family. In the red book, Warren County, Georgia, 1793-1900, Genealogy II, at the bottom of page 14, I discovered an entry from the Minutes of the Inferior Court, 1823-1833 as follows:
7 May, 1832: Ordered to pay Turner Harris $3.50 for a coffin for Sally Farr (a pensioner)
I had already found three other entries into these minutes in which Salace Farr was paid for the annual support of Sally Farr, a pauper, and the last of these entries was recorded on February 14, 1832. But this entry in May of 1832 establishes that Sally Farr died between late February and early May of 1832. However, the information does not establish exactly who this Sally Farr is.
It is possible that Sally Farr was Salace Farr’s mother, and that Salace cared for Sally the last several years of her life.
It is possible that this reference is to Sally Hays who married Jacob Farr, as confirmed by a marriage license in Warren County in 1803. It is highly likely that this Jacob Farr is actually Jacob Farr, Jr. since the first Jacob Farr is known to have died in 1802-1803.
So, the documentary evidence in these court records proves that Salace Farr cared for Sally Farr in Warren County, Georgia, until the death of Sally Farr in 1832. These documents also prove that Sally Farr was a pensioner, which begs this question: From what source was she drawing this pension? I hope to discover the actual source of this pension and who this Sally Farr actually is on my next trip to the Georgia Archives or to the Warren County Courthouse.
