Grave of Mary H. Farr Chafin
Today we drove over to Opelika, Alabama, to survey the cemetery at Mt. Olivet Primitive Baptist Church to visit the grave of my Third Great Grandaunt, Mary Farr (Jinks Chafin). Mary was born May 17, 1812, the tenth child of John and Jollery “Polly” (Brooks) Farr in Warren or Columbia County, Georgia. It is unclear where her parents were living in 1812.
I love going to cemeteries and “meeting” my relatives because I feel a deep connection with them in their presence. I understand that these are not just names on pages, but they were real people who lived and loved. They were people just like we are.
While we were there, we also discovered the small grave of infant Hunter Farr. We do not know his parents, but I hope to meet them someday.
